A Luau in the Rain Forest

Party photos & video: June 21, 2008

Our nephew Cody just graduated from high school and finished Marine boot camp. We were invited to his combined celebration party at Tumalo state park for a luau. Nothing says "I'm a tough Marine" like grass skirts and leis, right? It was a really cool theme and we had a great time, especially Jonas, with all the accessories that Auntie DeAnne had supplied for the party guests.

Few things are more exciting to Jonas than going to a party. If we even mention the word party he's on it and wants to go NOW!! When we arrived at the park he was getting very excited and declared after seeing all the juniper trees and sage brush "Hey. We're in the rain forest. Wow. I've never been to the rain forest before!" So right off the bat, he's super impressed that cousin Cody's party is in the rain forest.

As we walked down a little dirt path towards our group he announced "Wow. This is FUN!!" and we hadn't even done anything yet. I love that 3 year olds are so easily pleased (sometimes). So you can imagine how extremely cool he thought it was when he discovered he could wear a grass skirt, flower leis, and a crazy straw hat all while blowing bubbles. It's a dream come true for any kid.

Jonas' luau accessories were balanced nicely with his Cougars #52 t-shirt that Auntie had made him awhile back to wear to cousin Cody's football games. 52 is Cody's number and the t-shirt is a miniature replica of shirts that Cody and some of his teammates had made for themselves. All in all it was quite the outfit.

Auntie rented some Sumo Wrestling suits for the party and it was hilarious to watch the guys duke it out. Cody is the one in the blue belt. As you'll see at the end of the video, he's a "No Holds Barred" sort of guy.

Poolside

Videos: June 20, 2008

This was the second weekend it was warm enough to fill up Jonas' pool and let him practice his "swimming" skills. I think his best stroke is the crawl, which he has modified to fit the size of pool available to him. The best part of the videos we've taken lately (as you will see in the following vids) is him charging towards the camera and pleading to watch his performance.

This is a book Jonas has learned to "read" over the last week. We got it from the library and within two days he was reading it at bedtime instead of Dad reading it. It's a silly little story about a brother and sister (rabbits) hunting Easter Eggs. Hmmm...

And now for our feature presentation:
